Reads many pages that AI can't open
Paste a link into an AI and get “I can't open this page”? With the extension, that problem usually doesn't come up.
Even on sites that block AI
Some sites don't let AI tools into their pages. The extension doesn't connect to the page from the outside, so it usually doesn't run into that block.
Reads from your own browser
When you turn on “Read the open page” in Settings, it takes the text from the page that's open on your screen, in your own browser. That way you can have the page summarized, explained, or ask questions about it.
PDFs, images, screenshots
If you turn it on in Settings: if a PDF or image is open in your browser, it attaches the file itself; on a page whose text can't be read, it attaches a screenshot along with your question.

Frequently asked questions
Is the GetAskAI extension free?
Yes, completely free. You don't need a payment, a subscription or a credit card to install or use it. The answers come from getaskai.com, which is free because it's supported by ads.
Do I need to create an account or log in?
No. You can start using it the moment it's installed. No email, phone number or API key is asked for.
Which browsers does it work in?
It works in the desktop versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Naver Whale. Chromium-based browsers such as Brave and Vivaldi can install it from the Chrome Web Store. There's no extension for Safari for now.
How do I install the extension?
Use the button on this page to open your browser's store page, click the add button and confirm in the window that appears. Then pin GetAskAI to the toolbar from the puzzle icon. It all takes under a minute.
Can I use it on my phone?
The extension is for computers; phone browsers mostly don't support extensions. On your phone you can open getaskai.com and ask the same questions, paste a page's link to have it summarized, or upload a photo or PDF.
Which languages does it work in?
The extension is available in 14 languages: Turkish, English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Russian, Korean, Indonesian, Malay, Finnish and Czech. It takes the language from your browser and you can change it in Settings. Even if the page is in another language, the answer comes in the language you ask in.
How does the extension get updated?
Automatically. New versions arrive from the store on their own, and the popup tells you with a short note when the extension has been updated.
How does the extension read a page?
If you turned on “Read the open page” in Settings, it takes the page's text from what you see in your own browser and passes it to getaskai.com along with your question. Because the AI doesn't have to connect to the page from the outside, sites that block automatic readers can be summarized too. When it's off, only the page's address is sent; getaskai.com reads the public page itself.
Why is page reading off by default?
For your privacy: when you install the extension, no page's content is read. When you want a page summarized, just press “Turn on” in the popup; you can change this choice in Settings at any time.
Does it work on sites that block AI?
With page reading turned on, on most of them, yes, because the extension takes the page text from the page that's open on your screen, in your own browser. Some news and magazine sites don't let AI tools open their pages; that's why you get “I can't open this page” when you paste a link into an AI. With the extension this problem usually doesn't come up; only on a page made up of images, where no text can be read, is a screenshot attached.
Can it read pages I'm logged in to?
Yes, if you turned on page reading; it only reads the page that's open in your browser and that you click on. On email, messaging and social media sites you have to allow this separately; both are off by default.
Can it read PDFs and images?
Yes. If a PDF or image is open in your browser, the extension attaches the file itself to getaskai.com along with your question. On a page where no text can be read, it attaches a screenshot. This feature is off by default; you can turn it on in Settings.
Can I summarize a link without opening it?
Yes. Right-click the link and choose “Summarize linked page” from the GetAskAI menu; you get the summary without opening the page.
Can it summarize a Google Docs document?
Yes, with page reading turned on. In Google Docs, Sheets and Slides it reads the text of the open document and summarizes it; if the text can't be read, it attaches a screenshot.
What happens if I select a very long text?
With a very long selection, only the first part of the text goes into the question; if you're using the popup, it tells you so. For the clearest answer, just select the part your question is about.
What happens on very long pages?
With page reading on, the extension takes the page's main text and leaves out menus and similar parts. If you want to ask about a specific section of a long page, select that part and use “Ask about this” for the clearest answer.
Can I summarize a YouTube video without watching it?
Yes. On the video page, click “Summarize video” on the GetAskAI card right under the title. The extension reads the video's captions and sends them with your question; the summary is based on what the video says and can also show the times of key moments.
What happens with videos that have no captions?
If a video has no captions, the question is sent with the video's address and getaskai.com answers with whatever it can find about the video. In that case the answer may be less detailed than for videos with captions.
Does it work on YouTube Shorts too?
The GetAskAI card appears under the video title on regular video pages; there's no card on Shorts pages. For Shorts, you can use “Ask about this page” from the right-click menu.
What does “Analyze comments” do?
It reads the top comments under the video and summarizes what viewers think: the main opinions, common questions, complaints and praise.
How does it work on X?
On x.com, a small GetAskAI icon is added to the button row under each post. Click it to have the post explained, fact-checked with sources, translated into English, or to ask a question about it. Long posts are read in full.
Can I turn off the YouTube or X buttons?
Yes. In Settings in the extension popup, under “Show on:”, you can turn the YouTube and X buttons on or off separately.
What's in the right-click menu?
On selected text: Explain this, Summarize this, Translate into English, Fact-check with sources and Ask about this. On a link: Summarize linked page. On an empty part of the page: Summarize this page, Key points, Explain simply and Ask about this page. All of them are grouped under GetAskAI.
How do I ask from the address bar?
Type ga in the address bar, press space, type your question and press Enter. The answer opens on getaskai.com.
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
Alt+Shift+G opens the extension popup and Alt+Shift+S summarizes the open page; on a Mac, Option is used instead of Alt. If a key is already used by another extension, it shows as “Not set” in Settings; “Change shortcuts” in the extension's settings takes you to your browser's shortcuts page, where you can pick your own keys.
What does “Send automatically” mean?
When it's on, the question is sent by itself in the getaskai.com tab the extension opens, and the answer starts right away. If you turn it off, the question arrives typed into the box and you can edit it before sending. With the “Ask about” options you always decide when to send, since you type the question yourself.
Where does the answer open?
Every action opens getaskai.com in a new tab, and the answer starts coming in within a few seconds. In the same tab you can ask a follow-up question or add a photo or PDF.
How do I get to my recent questions?
The clock icon in the extension popup shows your last 12 questions; click one to open it again. The list is kept only on your device and can be cleared with one click.
Can I trust the answers?
AI can make mistakes. On current topics getaskai.com searches the web and shows the sources it used, with links; “Fact-check with sources” is there to check a claim against sources. On important topics, always look at the sources.
What information does the extension send?
Nothing is sent until you click an action. When you do, only what that action needs is sent: the text you selected, the post, the YouTube captions or the page's address; if you turned on page reading, also the page's title and main text. The information goes to getaskai.com to answer your question.
Does it track my browsing history?
No. Only the address of the page you click on (and its content, if you turned on page reading) is sent with your question; no browsing history is collected in the background. The wording Firefox shows at install, “website content, browsing activity, search terms”, describes exactly this: the content and address of the page you click on, and the question you type. Your recent questions and settings are stored in your browser.
Why does the extension ask for these permissions?
The menu permission is for the right-click menu; the active tab and scripting permissions let it read the text in the tab you click; the storage permission is for saving your settings. It reads pages only when you click, and on YouTube and X it only adds its own buttons.
Are there ads in the extension?
There are no ads in the extension itself. Answers are shown on getaskai.com, which shows a modest amount of advertising to stay free.
How do I uninstall the extension?
Right-click the GetAskAI icon in the toolbar and choose the remove option, or remove it from your browser's extensions page.
How is the GetAskAI extension different from other AI extensions?
Most AI extensions ask for an account, a subscription or your own API key; GetAskAI has none of those, so just install and ask. The answers come from getaskai.com, which brings together more than one AI model, shows sources on current topics and works in 14 languages. Because it reads the page from your own browser, it also summarizes many pages that AI can't open.
Can I use it without the extension?
Yes. You can go to getaskai.com and ask directly, paste a page's link, or upload a photo or PDF. The extension lets you do this in one click from the page you're on.
Who do I write to if I have a problem?
You can write to [email protected]. If you like the extension, leaving a rating on its store page helps us a lot.
