Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information GetAskAI processes when you use the service and how we handle it. We keep things simple and privacy-friendly: you can use GetAskAI without creating an account.

Information we collect

We process the questions and messages you type and any image or PDF you choose to upload. For security and to prevent abuse, we also process basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the time of your request. Because GetAskAI has no accounts, we do not collect names, passwords or profiles.

How we use your information

We use your input only to generate an answer, to operate and secure the service, and to apply the daily usage limit. We may use anonymous, aggregated statistics to understand usage and improve the service.

Files you upload

Images are processed entirely in memory and are never written to disk. PDFs may be written to a temporary file for a few seconds so their text can be extracted, and that file is deleted immediately in the same request. Once your answer is generated, no file remains on our servers.

Data retention

We store your questions, the answers and anonymous usage statistics (such as approximate country, device type and how you reached the site) to operate and improve the service. We set no tracking or advertising cookies of our own. Technical server logs are kept briefly for security.

Sharing with third parties

To generate answers, your questions are sent to the AI infrastructure that powers the service, and for current topics to search services that look up sources. Some of these services operate in countries outside the European Union, including the People's Republic of China. We do not sell your data and we do not share it except as needed to run the service or to comply with the law.

Advertising

GetAskAI is funded by advertising. Third-party advertising networks may set their own cookies or process data to deliver and measure ads. This processing is carried out under the responsibility of those networks and their own privacy policies. You can turn off personalised ads at any time in your browser's cookie settings, or opt out at youronlinechoices.eu and optout.aboutads.info.

Pictures and videos in answers

When an answer is based on a web search, it may show pictures from the public web pages it cites, each with a link to its source page. To display them, our server downloads the picture from that page and stores a smaller copy on our own image server (images.getaskai.com); no information about you is sent to the source site. Copies shown only in chats without an account are deleted after about 24 hours; copies shown to members are kept as long as the chat exists, and pictures a member saves are kept until they remove them or delete their account. Answers may also include YouTube videos: the YouTube player (youtube-nocookie.com) loads only when you press play, and from then on YouTube's own privacy policy applies.

Cookies and local storage

We use only the cookies and local storage that are technically necessary for the service to work. We do not set our own tracking cookies.

Browser extension

If you use the GetAskAI browser extension (right-click menu, toolbar button, the buttons it adds on YouTube watch pages and on X posts, or the “ga” keyword in the address bar), it opens getaskai.com in a new tab with your question already typed in and, unless you turn off “Send automatically” in the extension, sends it right away. The question contains only what you chose to send: the text you selected, the text and author name of an X post, or, for page and video actions, the title and address of that page or video. The address of the new tab also tells us the name of the website you started from (for example youtube.com, never the full address) and which extension button you used; we use this only to count how the extension is used. The extension keeps your settings and your last 12 questions in your browser, and you can clear that list in the extension. When you open getaskai.com, the extension also tells the page which version of the extension is installed, so the site can show a note if your copy needs an update; this number is checked in your browser and we do not store it. If you turn on “Read the open page” in the extension’s settings, then for page actions (summarize, key points, explain or ask about this page), the extension also reads the main text of the page open in that tab, only at the moment you click, and passes it to getaskai.com along with your question, so that pages that block our server can be answered too; this text is not shown in the question box, is not kept by the extension and is used only to answer that question. This setting is off by default. It also does this in online documents; in email, chat and social media apps it does so only if you separately turn that on in the settings. If you have separately turned this on in the settings, then when the page text cannot be read (for example a PDF, an image or a chart), the extension sends a screenshot of the page or the open file with your question when you click. These files are used only to answer your questions and are not stored. If you make GetAskAI your browser’s search engine, what you search for in the address bar goes to getaskai.com. For video actions on a YouTube video page (summarize, key takeaways, ask about this video, a question typed in the GetAskAI box under the video, and analyze comments), it likewise reads, only at the moment you click, the video’s transcript as YouTube shows it or, for “Analyze comments”, its top public comments with their like counts but without commenter names, and passes this text to getaskai.com along with your question in the same way. If a question contains a public web address, our server may open that page to answer it. Questions sent from the extension count towards the same daily limit.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your data. Because we store very little and use no account, these requests are limited in scope, but you can always contact us.

Children's privacy

GetAskAI is not directed to children. If you are under the age required in your country to consent to online services, please use it only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

International users

GetAskAI can be used from anywhere in the world. Depending on where our providers operate, your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the People's Republic of China.
